With Regis on the future of Electric Sheep in Second Life

Today I had a short chat with Regis Braathens - the Editor in Chief of the AvaStar, whom I dare to call my friend. As always, he was in a hurry, but we managed to discuss (a bit) the possible backoff of The Electric Sheep Company from the Second Life. To tell the truth I was not surprized with that news at all. It was a public secret that ES was firing instead of hiring for some time now. In my opinion ES is simply too BIG, too EXPENSIVE and too STATIC for Second Life, if you get my meaning right. In fact, soon after it's creation it bacame more an electric elephant than an electric sheep :)
I hope the change is for better :)

Etoile Case Study

Avenue des Champs - Etoile: is a two sim (two island) project comissioned by a private French investor. The main idea was to develop the vertical (north-south) axis of each island, so it resambled Avenue des Champs in Paris. The 60 m wide avenue is surrounded by rentable plots.
At the north end of the avenue we created the replica of Arc de Triomphe. The replica is a bit smaller in scale than the real thing, to fit better within the given width of the avenue. We used some real life textures from the actual arch to meet the prim limit expectations while maintaining the highest quality.

The same applies to the metro station, kiosks, street lamps and other details used in Etoile. To give it even more realistic look, we arranged some road works in the far part of the avenue.

Philosophy statement

Today's virtual reality is moving fast from gaming-only content towards the real world recreation. It is much more than a virtual 3D version of the World Wide Web. It is a completly new value, a completly new MARKET.
We realize this in aHead, and now we are on search for optimal solutions: to combine technology and community and to take advantage of this trend in the name of our customers.
Our role as a consulting and development group, is to help organizations find ways to use virtual world to realize their business, educational, and marketing goals.

Belga Case Study

Belga News Agency - from Belgium. The task was to create the presence of Belga in Second Life in the most natural way and in the most appropriate scale. On the contrary to Reuters presence, Belga aimed for natural looks and functions. We decided to recreate the "feeling" of their real life headquarters, which are located in an industrial, red-brick building. The layout of the building has been adopted for Second Life (remodelled, rescaled), but we kept the general looks of it. We also added a bit of surrounding structures, eg. swimming pool, basketball, benches, to create a less formal, recreational area around.

The inside of the building is minimalistically furnished and "sculptured" with light. It contains bar and lounge area, welcome area for news suppliers, offices, board room, presentation areas and maintenance area.

Investor: Belga
Location: Digital Zion - this is an SLURL - teleport to Second Life
