"How to be seen" basics for Second Life™

Title Tags:

include a few important keywords in the title (name of your land), just like you would for your Web sites.
Remember to use terms that people would actually search for, not just your company name.

Descriptions:

Add a description for your virtual property, including more of your secondary keywords. Make sure it is enticing so that visitors will want to click through to your place when searching within Second Life.

This description should use secondary keywords that people may be searching for.

Directory Listings:

Get your company listed in the Second Life directory. Make sure your virtual real estate is listed for your targeted keywords. This will help ensure that your listing shows up when doing a Find in-world search.

Link Optimization:

You can certainly take advantage of cross-promotion within this massive virtual landscape. Simply offer teleportation between your online virtual properties and your partners. It may sound far-fetched now, but partnerships and joint ventures could very easily become mainstream in Second Life. When it does, linking to others will be as easy as setting up a teleport.

Paid Advertising:

Organic search campaign is very important within Second Life. However, you can also increase your exposure through paid advertising.
Mainostaulu - an advertising network for Second Life, has a database of properties in which marketers can post billboards. In fact, they even allow you to direct your visitors "to the spot" by using maps.

Classifieds:

Run a classified ad every week within Second Life. Your classified listings come with basic statistics, so you'll know exactly how many people are coming to your place through your classified listing. If you find that you aren't getting very good results, simply change your copy until you get it right.

Location:

It's important to choose a good virtual location. Look for an area that already contains some established merchants. Avoid mainland!

A student survey on communication in Second Life by Puella Korda

aHead would like to encourage you to take this survey by Puella Korda, who is our friend in Second Life. As a Solution Provider and the International Marketing Sim makers and runners, we try to support all kinds of initiatives. This is one of them (with a few words of explanation from Puella).

With Regis on the future of Electric Sheep in Second Life

Today I had a short chat with Regis Braathens - the Editor in Chief of the AvaStar, whom I dare to call my friend. As always, he was in a hurry, but we managed to discuss (a bit) the possible backoff of The Electric Sheep Company from the Second Life. To tell the truth I was not surprized with that news at all. It was a public secret that ES was firing instead of hiring for some time now. In my opinion ES is simply too BIG, too EXPENSIVE and too STATIC for Second Life, if you get my meaning right. In fact, soon after it's creation it bacame more an electric elephant than an electric sheep :)
I hope the change is for better :)
